Bringing Back the 'Burg is Spartanburg's COVID-19 recovery effort. The initiative includes a Business Recovery Task Force, Guidebook, Commitment, Small Business Fund and marketing campaigns. Our work focuses on providing resources to help businesses navigate a changing world, and bringing back the 'Burg as the vibrant, strong community we've come to know and love.

Inspired by you At Prisma Health, you are at the center of everything we do. Your needs are what make us go further and do more – more services and treatment options, more education, more innovation, more community support. The Chamber has partnered with Luxor Scientific, out of Greenville, and they’ll be offering Spartanburg County businesses COVID-19 testing with a 52% discount and a guaranteed 48-hour turnaround. TEST ID: RP01 CPT CODE: 87798, 87581, 87486, 87633, 87541 SAMPLE TYPE: Nasopharyngeal or oropharyngeal swab in UTM TURNAROUND TIME: 24 - 48 hours Luxor Scientific offers highly-sensitive RT-PCR (reverse transcriptase- polymerase chain reaction)-based nucleic acid testing to detect the SARS-CoV-2 (the coronavirus strain that causes COVID-19) using nasopharyngeal swab specimens. We will send your test results by email, usually before midnight. While we target same day turnaround with results by midnight, sometimes they can take longer. 95% of the time they are back by midnight, 5% of the time samples take up to 48 hours due to re-running of samples, high lab testing volume and/or catastrophic lab events.

When the Bringing Back the Burg Business Recovery Task Force initially convened, it was agreed that the target of 80% of 2019 numbers across various data points would show significant economic recovery from COVID-19. Thanks to the work of community partners who invested time and resources in Spartanburg County, we were able to hit the 80% benchmark in all but two areas in 2020.

WE'RE encouraging spartanburg residents to get vaccinated.

Our economic bounce-back relies on Spartanburg residents' willingness to get vaccinated. Employers can play a critical role in vaccination education so we can get back to business.

National Changes in football

The Big Ten will not play football in the fall with 'the possibility of competition in the spring' due to health concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic. the conference said Tuesday.

After a dramatic few days full of meetings among coaches, athletics directors and university presidents, the stunning decision marks a potential tipping point for the Bowl Subdivision to play a season amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Who's next: Will all conferences bail on fall football after Big Ten, Pac-12 postpone their seasons?

Less than two hours after this announcement, the Pac-12 decided to not play its football season this fall, joining the Big Ten as the second member of the Power Five to elect not to play over the health issues raised by the coronavirus pandemic.

Upstate Pride SC is going virtual for Pride Week this November, a release said. It's the first time in the organization's 12-year history that the festivities will take on a fully-online format.

'Our country is in no place to hold large-scale events, and that sadly includes LGBTQ pride parades and festivals,' the organization said in a release, stating COVID-19 concerns as the reason for the move.

The theme of the online events, which run Nov. 1-7, will be #PrideAtHome. The hashtag was initially used by Upstate Pride SC during June for Pride Month, the release said. A Facebook filter for profile pictures will be reinstated for the occasion with new branding through the fall season.

City of Clemson continues to see elevated presence of COVID-19 in wastewater

There is still a significant level of the coronavirus in the City of Clemson’s wastewater, according to its weekly analysis report.

Both wastewater treatment plants, which serve the entire city and parts of Pendleton, had a “significant concern” over the presence of the virus in wastewater.

The Cochran Road plant recorded 700,000 copies of the virus per liter while the Pendleton/Clemson plant recorded 160,000 copies per liter, according to the report.

Samples from the university’s wastewater plant indicated no level of concern over the virus.
